The Newcastle Jets Youth team were defeated 2-0 by defending NBN State League Champions Broadmeadow Magic at Wanderers Oval on Sunday afternoon.

The Jets started the match strongly, keeping the majority of possession and fashioning a handful of chances in the early stages, but they were unable to convert.

Despite their encouraging start, the Jets nearly fell behind midway through the first half when Broadmeadow striker Peter Haynes hit the crossbar with his shot from inside the box.

The Jets hit the woodwork themselves when a free-kick was deflected onto the crossbar shortly after the half-time interval.

However, it was the home side that took the lead on 56 minutes when Chris Berlin finished a one-on-one opportunity past Jets goalkeeper Adam Pearce.

After having a goal disallowed for offside, Broadmeadow sealed the victory when Rhys Tippett knocked a low cross from Haynes into the back of the net.
