The Newcastle Jets Youth team take on Valentine FC at Cahill Oval on Saturday in Round 10 of the NBN State League.

Jets coach Craig Deans said his side will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing 2-0 loss to bottom-placed Lake Macquarie City FC last weekend.

“It-s disappointing for them when they have performances and results like that, so hopefully they have the motivation to rectify that,” Deans said.

“They-re at a stage in their career where they-re hoping to make the step-up to become a professional footballer, so that should be motivation for them to want to perform at a high level every time they step on the field.”

Deans said the young Jets had put in a good week on the training field following last weekend-s disappointed loss.

“To be fair to the players, their attitude and everything with their training has been excellent,” Deans said.

“They let themselves down last weekend, but they are keen to make up for that on Saturday.

“It-s important they have a positive response and a positive reaction hopefully we can see that against Valentine.”

With the Jets sitting in eighth spot on the NBN State League ladder, Deans said it is crucial that they start winning games to stay in touch with the teams currently occupying the finals spots.

“There-s pressure on them now to win some games if they want to make the finals and they-ve got to learn to be able to cope with that,” he said.
