Newcastle Jets Youth extended its lead at the top of the NPL ladder with a convincing 5-2 win over Weston Workers at Automation Park on Saturday.

Two early goals gave the Newcastle Jets Youth a demanding 2-0 lead going into the half time break and a goal after the restart gave them a 3-0 lead with plenty of time to play.

Weston Workers left to rue some missed chances that would have given them the chance to fight for a result despite the early three-goal deficit.

Radovan Pavicevic scored the opener before being subbed off early with hamstring complaints.

Reece Papas added the second for the Newcastle Jets Youth with a good long range effort to give the visitors a 2-0 lead going into the half time break.

Tom Walker extended the Newcastle Jets Youth lead minutes after the half time break to make it 3-0 before Weston Workers almost worked their way back into the contest.

Jamie Subat provided a great finish converting a cross from the left hand side to draw the score line back to 3-1.

Jason Cowburn had an opportunity to bring the home side back to within one goal as he stepped up to the penalty spot but saw his shout bounce back off the cross bar.

Brandon Lundy and Beau McDonald got their name on the score sheet as the Newcastle Jets Youth finished strongly before Garry McDermott got a late consolation for Weston Workers as it finished 5-2.

Just two points separated the sides going in to the contest in a tightly grouped top four pack after six rounds of football, Weston still sitting in fourth now five points behind Newcastle Jets Youth.

Newcastle Jets Youth faces Lambton Jaffas on Saturday while Weston Workers welcomes South Cardiff to Rockwell Automation Park on Sunday.
