The Newcastle Jets Youth team will take on Lambton Jaffas in Round 12 of the NBN State League at Arthur Edden Oval on Saturday afternoon.

The Jets will enter the match full of confidence after back-to-back wins over Valentine FC and Weston Workers Bears FC

“It-s really good for the players to keep showing some consistency and pushing their way up the table,” Jets Youth coach Craig Deans said.

“We-re in fifth place now we want to move as far up the table as we can over the course of these last seven games.”

With the NBN State League season well past the halfway mark and a number of teams in contention for a finals spot, the race to secure a top five finish is heating up.

“Realistically, you probably want to win four or five of those last seven games if you-re going to be serious about playing in the finals,” Deans said.

“You don-t just want to make the finals and go out early, so it-s important to be winning games not only to make the finals, but to give the team enough confidence to make an impact in the finals if you do qualify.”

After playing out a 2-2 draw with Lambton earlier in the season, Deans said he is expecting another tough encounter on Saturday.

“I think it will be quite similar to the Weston game, they-re quite strong, a real tough team to beat and to breakdown,” he said.

“We-re going to have to be at our best again if we-re going to get anything from this game.

We had a 2-all draw last time and they-ve improved a lot since that game, but I think we-ve improved too, so it should be a good game.”
