The young Jets outfit began the brighter of the two sides, and nearly took the lead early on when Mirjan Pavlovic stormed onto the ball, a last ditch tackle saw the ball skew into the path of James Virgili who hit his first-time strike just over the bar.
Midway through the half and Pavlovic would indeed open the scoring when he powerfully headed home from a corner in the 21st minute to claim his sixth goal of the campaign.
The Jets strike force was causing havoc with the Queenslanders, and Virgili almost doubled the lead ten minutes later when he fizzed his shot just wide of the Roar goal from close range.
After the interval and the Jets would rue their missed opportunities when Tim Smits leaped highest for a Daniel Bowles cross to head past a hapless Dion Shaw to restore parity.
With nine minutes remaining until the final whistle, Smits secured his brace, and the three competition points for Brisbane, when he won possession deep inside Newcastle territory before sending the ball into the top corner.
