Captain Jobe Wheelhouse will be forced to miss the Jets trip to Wellington this week.

Captain Jobe Wheelhouse will be forced to miss the Newcastle Jets trip to Wellington this week after receiving his second yellow card, and consequently a red, in the dying minutes of the Jets 2-1 loss to Sydney FC on the weekend.

“There are no excuses for a red card and I have let the boys down,” Wheelhouse said.

“I let my frustration get the better of me and it is something I need to control.

“I don-t like missing any games so I am obviously disappointed that I am not going over to Wellington with the boys.

“Hopefully they can go over there and break the hoodoo and get the three points to put us back in the winners circle.”

Wheelhouse-s absence will force Gary van Egmond to appoint another player to lead the Jets in Wellington on Friday night.

“We will discuss the captaincy and make a decision later in the week,” van Egmond explained.

“Unfortunately these things happen and it is just a case of making sure he doesn-t put himself in the position where he has to lunge like that and it is something he needs to work on.”

Van Egmond will announce his squad on Wednesday morning, before the team travel later that day to Wellington for Friday night’s game at Westpac Stadium.
