Kantarovski excited to return to Hunter Stadium

Newcastle Jets midfielder Ben Kantarovski says he is excited to play in front of the Club’s Members and supporters against Melbourne Victory at Hunter Stadium on Saturday after making his first appearance of the season last weekend.

Kantarovski missed the Jets’ opening three matches of the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season due to a knee injury, but was back on deck for last weekend’s clash with Perth Glory, starting the match and playing 83 minutes.

“It was good to be back out there after such a long pre-season, especially with the setback that I did have,” Kantarovski said.

“Now I’m just looking forward to this weekend’s home game and I’m really excited to play in front of our Members again.”

Kantarovski said he was pleased with how his knee held up in his first match back.

“It felt really good,” Kantarovski explained.

“I was actually a bit surprised because it almost felt too good to be true, especially with it being my first game coming back from my injury.

“It was a bit unlucky with the injury I did actually have, so it was disappointing to miss some games. as it always is.

“I’m back out there now though and I’m doing all the right stuff to stay out there.

“All the conditioning we did outside of the knee to keep the body ready for that particular reason, to be thrown straight back in, was really good.”

Despite the Jets’ winless start to the season, Kantarovski said he felt confident the Club could turn things around in the coming weeks.

“We’ve played some decent football at times, but I think it’s our own errors that have cost us games and that’s disappointing,” Kantarovski said.

“It’s up to us to look at ourselves and fix that because we’re the ones causing ourselves the grief.

“If you look at the capabilities of our players and the actual squad we’ve put together this season, there is a tremendous amount of talent in this squad.

“We can only go up from here and we feel like we’re slowly getting better each game.

“Once we’ve stamped out these errors that are causing us to lose games, I think we can be right up there.”
