Football Federation Australia, the Hyundai A-League Clubs and Professional Footballers Australia will unite this week to support the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation’s ‘Kick it For Brain Cancer’ fundraiser during Round 26 of the Hyundai A-League.
The initiative aims to raise $1 million to help beat the brutal disease, with fans able to support the initiative at each of this weekend’s fixtures, as well as online at www.kickitforbraincancer.org.au.
Supporters who attend the games can show their support by purchasing a ‘Kick It For Brain Cancer’ bandana.
Brain Cancer kills more children than any other disease, and more adults under 40 than any other cancer, with more than 1,600 Australian’s to be diagnosed with the disease in 2018.
Jets’ CEO, Lawrie McKinna was proud to throw his support behind this important initiative.
“This is a fantastic fundraiser driven by Mark and Mariana (Rudan) and the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation,” said McKinna.
“The league has gotten right behind this initiative and it’s great to be hosting the first match of ‘Kick it for Brain Cancer’ Round.
“It’s important that we continue to raise awareness and funding for further research, with football being the perfect avenue to bring people together in support of such a worthy cause.”
Cure Brain Cancer Foundation CEO Michelle Stewart said, “I think it’s fitting that a sport which relies so heavily on team work is pulling together to raise funds for brain cancer.
“We know that finding a cure for this disease requires huge amounts of collaboration from researchers, scientists, philanthropists and this weekend, ten football teams and thousands of fans.
“We’re so grateful to Football Federation Australia and the Hyundai A-League for supporting this incredibly important cause.”
Sadly, the chances of surviving brain cancer are as bleak as they were 30 years ago, with a devastatingly low five-year survival rate of just 20%. But by increasing funding and research, Cure Brain Cancer Foundation aims to increase that to 50% by 2023.
All proceeds will be donated to Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, Australia’s leading organisation for brain cancer research, advocacy and awareness.
