Macquarie Football, Hunter Valley Football and Newcastle Football yesterday confirmed that their scheduled All-Age and Over 35s competitions have been moved so as not to clash with the Newcastle Jets’ upcoming Semi Final at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Competition across each Zone was set to commence on Friday 27 April, the same night the Jets will play off for a spot in the Hyundai A-League Grand Final.

After discussions between the Jets, Northern New South Wales Football and each of the Zones it was agreed that competition fixtures be moved to Thursday 26 April to allow local players and their families the chance to attend the much-anticipated game.

Newcastle Jets’ CEO, Lawrie McKinna said the move was one which showcased the strength of the football community across the Hunter.

“It’s a credit to everyone involved, the way Northern New South Wales and each of the Zones have come together to make this happen has been absolutely tremendous,” said McKinna.

“The attitude from across the board was ‘how can we make this game (Semi Final) available to everyone?’ and we found a workable solution that meets the needs of our football community.

“The All-Age and Over 35s competitions across each zone have a significant number of players and it’s fantastic that they, and their families can get to the game on Friday night to support the boys.

“This game (Semi Final) is massive for our club and football in the Hunter, we want to see a big crowd at McDonald Jones Stadium and this is another step in the right direction.

“I can’t thank Northern New South Wales, Macquarie Football, Hunter Valley Football and Newcastle Football enough for their efforts in making this possible.”
