The Newcastle Jets met Adelaide United this afternoon at Hindmarsh Stadium in the season opener of the second season of the Westfield W-League, holding their opposition to a 0-0 draw.

The opening shot of the game was taken by Adelaide-s Donna Cockayne during the first ten minutes; however Jets keeper Alison Logue deflected the shot to keep the opposition from claiming the first goal of the match.

Cockayne continued to trouble the Jets as the ball seesawed between both ends of the field, however the score remained at a standstill.

The Jets were blazing in the second half in an attempt to find the back of the net with youngster Maddy Searl creating opportunites and teammate Stacey Day sending a corner Amber Neilson-s way who kicked the ball over the crossbar.

During injury time, Gema Simon almost broke through to Adelaide-s goal, but her strike was denied by an Adelaide defender.

Goal attempts in their favor, Newcastle Jets were unable to capitalise, though Coach Wayne O-Sullivan is pleased with his side-s performance nonetheless.”

“As a whole we are very happy with the performance, we-ve tried to implement a lot of things over the last eight weeks, but there is always that fear that when you go into competition that you can-t actually transfer into competition,

“But the girls were brave enough and willing to transfer that practice into competition and they played very well for a large percentage of the game,” he said.

Next weekend the Jets will return to the road to meet Perth Glory at Members Equity Stadium and will be looking to keep the momentum going.

The game will be telecast live on ABC, Saturday 10th October, with a local kickoff f 12:00pm and AEDT kickoff of 3:00pm.
