MATCHES: Jets games galore this weekend!

All three Newcastle Jets teams will be in action this weekend as the club aims to improve and enhance its prospects in the Hyundai A-League, Westfield W-League and Foxtel National Youth League.

The weekend’s action will commence with Clayton Zane’s junior Jets taking on Western Sydney Wanderers Youth at Popondetta Park in Emerton in Sydney’s west.

Jets Youth currently occupy second place on the FNYL – ‘Conference B’ ladder, however crucially have played one game less than all of their opponents except for top-of-the-table Sydney FC Youth.

Jets Youth tackle the Sky Blues at Magic Park next weekend, so a result on Saturday 2 January could prove vital in helping to determine which of the teams may ultimately represent ‘Conference B’ in the FNYL 2015/16 Grand Final against the ‘Conference A’ Champions.

The second Jets game of the weekend will witness Newcastle Jets Women up against Melbourne Victory Women at Hunter Stadium.

Jets Women defeated Western Sydney Wanderers Women 1-0 away from home on Sunday, ensuring that they remain well and truly in the hunt for the Westfield W-League finals going into their final three games of the regular season.

Melbourne Victory Women are currently in last position on the Westfield W-League table, so they will undoubtedly be desperate for a result against Craig Deans’ side.

But the game represents a huge opportunity for the club’s women’s team to pile the pressure on Adelaide United Women who currently occupy fourth place on the Westfield W-League ladder ahead of the Jets by goal difference.

Soon after full time in the Westfield W-League encounter at Hunter Stadium, the club’s Hyundai A-League outfit will take to the field against Melbourne Victory.

Scott Miller’s men are just two points outside the competition’s top six heading into the mid-way point of the campaign, and with many matches still to play remain up for the fight to finish the season in the finals berths.

The Jets defeated Victory at home in round 3 thanks to a fantastic strike by David Carney plus a determined team effort, and should Newcastle replicate that result against Kevin Muscat’s men they could indeed re-enter the top six on Sunday.
