The Newcastle Jets are taking further strides to develop football throughout the Hunter, as Ernie Merrick invites local coaches to take part in a two-hour workshop at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The workshop, being held on Saturday 10 March will take an in-depth look at how the Newcastle Jets structure their training, match day and wider team preparation.
Merrick will focus on key elements of developing players in a professional environment and said the workshop was a way to pass on lessons learnt over a coaching career spanning more over 30 years experience.
“This workshop isn’t about what’s right or wrong, it’s more about what we’re doing at the Jets to get the most out of our playing group,” said Merrick.
“There are things we do here in Newcastle that wouldn’t work at other clubs and vice versa, but hopefully there are some things that people can take away and apply to their own coaching and see some results.”
It’s another example of the Jets engaging with the football community in Newcastle and Merrick said he feels it’s important for the club to give back.
“We’ve got a really strong football community in Newcastle and right across Northern New South Wales,” added Merrick.
“It’s important that we foster the development and progression of football across the region, because ultimately we want to see players and coaches progressing from grassroots football to the (Hyundai) A-League or the (Westfield) W-League.”
There is a $10 registration fee to attend the workshop, with light refreshments provided on the day.
Those attending the workshop will also receive 6.25 FFA CPD Points.
