If required to play a different role this Sunday, Jets defender Scott Neville is confident he is up to the challenge.

Newcastle Jets defender Scott Neville is confident to play a different role this week if required; following the suspension of Kew Jaliens and also the possibility Connor Chapman may miss the game due to injury.

“I-ve played centre back a number of times in the A-League for Perth and maybe a couple of time for Newcastle,” he said.

“There-s a few options to play there, like me, Jacob (Pepper), Taylor (Regan), Josh Mitchell…a number of us can fill in so I-m sure whatever Gary (van Egmond) goes with will be the right decision.

“Whatever is good for the team I-m willing to play; if he wants me to play up front, I-ll play up front. If he wants me to play at centre back, I-ll play at centre back.”

As the Jets prepare to host Melbourne Heart this Sunday at Hunter Stadium, they are well aware how close the competition is and how important every game is.

“You definitely can-t have a lull; you lose two games and you-re back to second bottom,” Neville added.

“The way we train, Gary definitely wouldn-t accept it, Ruben and the older players wouldn-t accept as well.

“We-re a driving force and we want to keep going forward.”

While focussed on their own game, the Jets will look how they can break down the Heart as they get closer to game day.

“Individually I-ve watched a bit (of Melbourne Heart),” Neville said.

“Come Thursday, Friday, Saturday we-ll do a lot more individual work on them and team play and see what-s the best structure for us to break them down and get the three points.

“I think if we can just go out there and maybe press early, and not let them get into the rhythm of the game and hopefully score a goal early and really knock them back and go on from there, then that would be great.”
