… Branko Culina-s side are still seeking their first win of the campaign, however, in front of their ever-inspiring home fans, Jets are unbeaten this season, with both games at EnergyAustralia Stadium having been drawn, which is perhaps unusual when considering that Newcastle didn-t play out a single draw on home soil throughout the whole of last season.
Despite not yet managing a victory in the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season, there are signs that Jets are more than capable of turning things around soon. Last week-s match at ladder leaders Adelaide United, while ultimately ending in defeat, saw Newcastle dominate for lengthy spells.
With better finishing the result could easily have gone the other way. If Jets- front-men can find their shooting boots this Friday, Glory-s backline will be in for a torrid time.
Another reason for optimism in a testing season for Newcastle-s loyal supporters is the emergence of Chinese signing Zhang Shuo, who made his debut at Hindmarsh Stadium and showed plenty of promise in spite of not being fully match fit. When firing in all cylinders, he-ll be more than a handful for any opponent.
In stark contrast to Newcastle-s start, Perth Glory arrive at EnergyAustralia Stadium as one of the teams to fear, and will be looking to get their marvellous season back on track after an unexpected stumble last week.
The shock defeat to Gold Coast United in front of another big crowd at nib Stadium was not only their first loss of the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season, but also the first time they have failed to hit the target.
Rest assured, Glory-s front men will be doing their all to ensure their supporters who make the long journey to NSW will have more to cheer about in Week 7. But, if Perth are to return to winning ways, they-ll have to do it without inspirational young defender Scott Neville, who will miss the next two games after his call up to the Australian Under-23 squad for their Four Nations tournament in Vietnam.
Jets too, will be losing a key player to Aurelio Vidmar-s Olyroo squad, with striker Marko Jesic also getting a call-up.
Can Newcastle battle their way to a morale-boosting win or will Glory get their push for silverware back on track? One thing-s for sure, it-s time for all Jets fans to stand up and be counted. Get to EnergyAustralia Stadium in numbers and stand united in the face of adversity.
