Newcastle Jets welcome NPL 2 NSW transition

Newcastle Jets today welcome the move from Football NSW and NPL NSW clubs to transition the Club’s Youth Team to NPL 2 NSW for the remainder of the 2020 season.

The next 11 matches will see the Youth Team compete in the Football NSW NPL 2 competition, after playing two matches in the NPL 4 NSW at the beginning of the season. jets

Shifting to NPL 2 NSW will enable the Jets to expose their young players with greater levels of competition ahead of forthcoming national team activity.

In addition to the adjustment of the NPL NSW structures, Football NSW has committed to providing greater flexibility for Hyundai A-League youth teams competing in the respective NPL competitions to field U-23 players following the completion of the Hyundai A-League 2019/20 season.

Newcastle Jets Academy Technical Director, Craig Deans, heralded the move as a big win for the Club’s young players and thanked both Football NSW and fellow NPL NSW clubs.

“The move is a great opportunity for our younger players to test themselves in a stronger league, better prepare for national team duties, and give us a good idea of where our players are at,” Deans said.

“We really appreciate the efforts of Football NSW and all of the NPL NSW clubs across all divisions for their assistance in making this happen.

“It’s something we’ve been working towards for more than 12 months now, and we’re pleased to see it come through.”
