Newcastle Jets captain Nigel Boogaard is free to play in Sunday’s Hyundai A-League round 26 clash with Brisbane Roar after his red card from last weekend’s game against Perth Glory was overturned by the independent match review panel (MRP) on Tuesday.
The MRP has the authority to consider the incident as Boogaard was issued with a direct red card by the referee for the offence of denying the opposing team an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
In reviewing the incident, the MRP considered an Obvious Error (Red Card) Application submitted by Newcastle Jets.
The MRP unanimously allowed the Obvious Error (Red Card) Application in accordance with the A-League Disciplinary Regulations. Accordingly, the red card will be expunged from Boogaard’s record and he will be available to play in Round 26 of the Hyundai A-League.
