Newcastle Jets are pleased to announce that experienced Hyundai A-League Assistant Coach Luciano Trani has joined the club as Scott Miller’s Senior Assistant Coach.

Trani, who is highly regarded in Hyundai A-League circles for his knowledge and skill set, arrives at the Jets having most recently served as John van’t Schip’s Assistant at Melbourne City.

The 49-year-old has also worked with Brisbane Roar, Adelaide United and Wellington Phoenix in the past, however his appointment in Newcastle is his first in the Hyundai A-League at a New South Wales based club.

Trani said that he is excited by the opportunity to work alongside Miller in his second season at the Jets, and is motivated to play his part in helping to make Novocastrians proud of the club.

“I have always found that Newcastle is a place where the people are very passionate about what they do,” Trani explained. “Newcastle people appreciate people who are prepared to come in and work hard, respect their city, and show a genuine love for football.”

“While Newcastle is a beautiful region and one that I will undoubtedly enjoy, my main focus is to come in and work as hard as I can every day alongside Scott [Miller], the staff and the club to try and create something that Newcastle is very proud of.”

“We want to try to get the club back to where it wants to be. The club definitely made some steps last season, and I am hoping my approach might help complement the work that has already been done.”

“Newcastle can be just as big as some of the major city teams,” he said.

Trani has helped guide a number of teams to the Hyundai A-League Finals Series in the past. In fact, he was a part of the coaching team at Brisbane Roar that won the Hyundai A-League Championship in 2014.

Newcastle Jets Head Coach Miller said he is happy to have a Senior Assistant Coach of Trani’s capacity joining his coaching team.

“I am delighted to welcome Luciano to the Newcastle Jets as the club’s Senior Assistant Coach for the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season,” Miller said.

“It was evident throughout the recruitment process that Luciano will provide the skill set, knowledge and mentality to assist in our progression.”

“Luciano will help us create an environment in which we demand high performance, work ethic, and individual player development.”

“I am looking forward to building a trusting relationship with Luciano, and feel our combined skill set can be of great benefit to our squad’s development and performance,” Miller concluded.
