Newcastle Jets has today been informed that no action will be taken in relation to Shane Smeltz’s challenge on goalkeeper Mark Birighitti.
“Newcastle Jets understand that referee Peter Green has confirmed he saw the incident and deemed it to be accidental,” Newcastle Jets Interim Chief Executive Officer, Mr David Eland, said.
“As a Club we must therefore accept that there is no avenue for us to contest the decision determined by the officials.
“It is now our focus to support Mark in his rehabilitation from the injuries he sustained on Saturday, and hope that no players in the Hyundai A-League suffer injuries of this ilk in the future,” he said.
