Newcastle Jets is proud to announce that the Club has teamed up with Port of Newcastle for the remainder of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 Season.

The Club kicked-off the partnership with a behind-the-scenes Port tour for players Nigel Boogaard and Lachlan Jackson, plus Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer, Lawrie McKinna, in early December.

Port of Newcastle CEO Geoff Crowe, Executive Manager Communication Lauren Eyles, and other key Port staff hosted the Jets representatives on the tour.

Port of Newcastle is one of the busiest commercial and tourism Ports not only in Australia, but the world.

“As Novocastrians we have a strong sense of connection to our working harbour and our local sporting teams,” Crowe said. “It’s an exciting time for Port of Newcastle to partner with other Hunter businesses in supporting the future success of the Newcastle Jets.”

Geoff Crowe Quote

“Port of Newcastle is managed by a local Newcastle team with a passion for realising the Port’s and our region’s full potential. Like the Jets, our company has business and cultural connections with China. China Merchants Group, a 50 per cent shareholder in Port of Newcastle, operates in Shenzhen and Hong Kong.”

Boogaard, Jackson and McKinna ventured around the Port on the survey vessel JT Gowlland. The tour provided a unique perspective of the harbour, with the opportunity to get up close to the Port’s operations from the water.

“The Port of Newcastle is such an important part of the Newcastle infrastructure,” McKinna explained. “It brings a lot of money into this area.”

“To have the biggest coal Port in the world here is something we should be proud of. It is just great that the Newcastle Jets have aligned with the Newcastle Port,” McKinna concluded.
