NEWS: Miller’s Jets embracing RAAF Round against Roar

After continuing their good away form last weekend with a draw against Adelaide United Newcastle Jets will welcome Brisbane Roar to Hunter Stadium on Saturday in a special round 8 of the Hyundai A-League.

The Jets, under Head Coach Scott Miller, Senior Assistant Coach Jean-Paul de Marigny and co. sit fifth on the table after seven rounds having recorded three wins, two draws, and two defeats to start Hyundai A-League season 11.

In addition to three F/A-18 Hornets flying over Hunter Stadium prior to kick-off the Jets will don a special Air Force strip in recognition of the RAAF’s contribution to the Hunter community, and are looking to put in a strong performance at home in the club’s inaugural RAAF Base Williamtown round.

“You have to maximise your points at home and the fact that we haven’t done that so far we are aware of it and know it really needs to step up a gear,” Miller said.

“Every point is valuable to the squad especially against teams like Adelaide and Brisbane who have been successful in the past couple years,” he said.

Brisbane Roar under Head Coach John Aloisi have accumulated 14 points from the opening seven rounds, but sit just three points above Newcastle on the ladder, meaning the teams can go level on points on Saturday.

Miller’s Jets are embracing the challenge of playing against one of the form sides of the competition.

“We looked at them and have reviewed how their front three combine with Corona in midfield, but we know they are a good squad and they have been for a number of years,” Miller said.

“They are very structurally sound and have a great understanding with each other in terms of relationships.”

“For me it is more so about the intent of how we approach the game. It’s about structured press, understanding roles and responsibilities, body language, willingness to win and putting pressure on the ball.”
