The University of Newcastle’s Marketing and Communications department invited Newcastle Jets Head Coach Scott Miller to present to their team recently.
The University have recently implemented a new Staff Cultures program focusing on three key themes – curious, collaborative and courageous – and invited Miller to speak about the culture he is developing within Newcastle Jets.
Miller gave the group insights into his methods of creating and sustaining a functional team with distinct goals and a positive culture. He presented the model he uses with the Newcastle Jets squad.
Miller outlined the vision and mission he has for the club and the importance of connecting these two factors to define a goal and direction.
Creating a positive and cohesive culture within the club has been a dominant factor in his decision making in terms of pre-season recruitment as he works to build on the dynamic that was created last season and sustain the team culture.
Miller spoke about the importance of empowerment, trust, ambition and commitment in creating a positive culture and a collaborative team. He also explained his methods in making the players accountable for their performances in having them set their own expectations and goals as a group.
