An open letter from CEO, Lawrie McKinna

Lawrie McKinna

Dear Jets Members and fans,

I’m sure you’ve seen the news today, that the Club has parted ways with Carl Robinson and Kenny Miller. They’ve taken up roles at Western Sydney Wanderers.

This is obviously not an outcome that we saw coming, or an outcome that we in any way wanted.

The opportunity to head to Western Sydney arose for Carl, and he wanted to explore that opportunity.

I know, and everyone at the Club knows, that this is a disappointing outcome. It’s not what we wanted. Uncertainty around the ownership and the Club’s financial situation meant that we weren’t in a position to stand in his way.

It’s been well documented that our search for new owners has been a long and strenuous one.

I mentioned today in my press conference that the Club has not received any funds from our current owner since 9 October 2019.

It has been tough for everyone involved with the Club, but we are confident that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

We are looking forward to the sale of the Club being finalised soon, and we are looking forward to being able to share this news with you as soon as we can.

As FFA CEO James Johnson said today: “The Newcastle region needs and deserves a strong, vibrant and successful club.”

We need the support of our Members and fans now more than ever to achieve this vision and build a sustainable future for football in Newcastle.

I can assure you that we will be here and ready when next season kicks off.

Speaking of next season, we now have a start date of 27 December 2020 to work towards for both our A-League and Westfield W-League teams.

Memberships will be available for renewal in early November. Due to the short turnaround the Club will NOT be automatically renewing Memberships for the 2020/21 season. We will have more information about Memberships to share with you very soon.

We have a strong A-League squad assembled here in Newcastle with one or two more pieces to add to the puzzle, and the search for a new coach to guide them into the 2020/21 season has already begun. We hope to have more news for you on that front in the near future.

We’re also looking forward to bringing you some more news about our Westfield W-League squad and coaching staff shortly, and we’re excited to bring that to you.

Thank you, Jets Members and fans.

Yours in Football,

Lawrie McKinna.
