Newcastle Jets are pleased to confirm the signing of Panamanian international, Abdiel Arroyo on a season-long loan deal.
The striker joins from parent club, Arabe Unido, who finished second in the Panamanian Football League in 2018/19.
The 25-year-old is a regular feature in the Panama national team, with 47 appearances and seven goals since making his debut in 2014.
The most recent of those came in the CONCACAF Gold Cup where Arroyo played in each of Panama’s three group stage matches and their quarter-final defeat to Jamaica, bagging a goal against Guyana.
He's also seen game time at a number of other international tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup in 2018 and CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2015 and 2017.
Arroyo has played his club football in a number of different leagues, with goals to his name in competitions including Uruguay's Primera División and Costa Rica's Liga Deportiva Alajuelense.
Coach, Ernie Merrick was looking forward to having the striker jet into Newcastle.
“Abdiel is a relatively young player with a lot of pace and potential and we’re excited he’s joining us for the season,” Merrick said.
“His speed will hold him in good stead in this competition, he has an eye for goal and he's shown that lately with goals in the Gold Cup.
“He’s still very much in his prime at 25 years old, and the fact that he’s playing regularly for the national team is another positive indicator of where he’s at.”
Arroyo will link up with the Club on Thursday 1 August.
