To get an extension on my contract has really lifted my confidence, it has always been my dream to play here in Newcastle,” said Pepper.

Today the Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets announced that they have upgraded and extended the contract of midfielder Jacob Pepper.

Having started the season playing in the Jets Youth team, Pepper says he was lucky a few injuries in the team gave him the chance to make his mark in the A-League.

“I am stoked to have been given a new contract, it has been a quicker progression than I expected,” the 19-year-old said.

“To get an extension on my contract has really lifted my confidence, it has always been my dream to play here in Newcastle.”

Having played 10 games for the Jets this season, the midfielder says he is learning a lot from his more experienced teammates like captain Jobe Wheelhouse.

“I don-t mind where I play on the pitch as long as I am getting some game time,” he explained.

“I still need to improve on a lot of things and I will continue to work hard so I can be the best player I can be.”

Meanwhile Wheelhouse has been ruled out of Saturday’s game against Perth Glory due to a groin strain sustained in last weekend’s win. The captain will be assessed next week in a hope to just miss the one game.
