A spot in the top three is on the line when the Jets youth team take on Broadmeadow at Wanderers Oval on Tuesday.

This game was postponed due to wet weather. The Jets will play the Magic at Broadmeadow at 6pm on Tuesday August 13

There will be plenty at stake for the Newcastle Jets youth team when they take on Broadmeadow Magic in the last round of the NBN State League regular season at Wanderers Oval on Saturday/

Last week-s 3-2 loss to Charlestown City saw the Jets drop out of the race for the Minor Premiership, but they can still retain an all-important spot in the top three with a win or draw against Broadmeadow on Saturday.

Teams in the top three get a crucial second chance should they lose in the first week of the NBN State League finals.

“We-ve got ourselves into this position where it has come down to the last match to keep a spot in the top three,” coach Clayton Zane said.

“From a coaches perspective this is a good opportunity for the boys to learn how to win matches in an important situation.

“In saying that, we-re not making too much of a big deal whether we finish second, third or fourth.

“Regardless of whether we drop points or not on Saturday, we-ll have a finals game the following week where we will look to play our own style of football and stay in the competition.”

The Jets will be hoping that player fatigue isn-t a factor in tomorrow night-s contest.

After enduring a testing match against a tough Charlestown outfit, six Jets players were called into the NBN Select team to play the Newcastle Jets first team in a pre-season trial match at Adamstown Oval on Wednesday night.

“We took a bit of a battering against a physical and direct Charlestown side and that was a good battle for us,” Zane said.

“The boys have bounced back well in training this week even though our preparation has been disrupted a bit by having six boys picked in the NBN Select team that played mid-week.

“Those boys should hopefully be on a high from playing in that match, but we just hope they-re not too tired.

“They-re young and enthusiastic enough to back up and hopefully get through 90 minutes for us.”
