The Newcastle Jets first team squad will play their penultimate friendly match ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 Season on Sunday 18 September against Melbourne City FC in Ballarat.

City, who feature Caltex Socceroos star Tim Cahill, will host the Jets in regional Victoria having recently completed a week-long pre-season tour to Townsville where they played both Northern Fury FC (NPL) and Wellington Phoenix.

City defeated Northern Fury FC 4-1 at Townsville Sports Reserve last week before falling 4-1 to Ernie Merrick’s ‘Nix on Sunday.

The Jets have been in strong pre-season form of late, securing three wins from three matches on the club’s tour of China, before defeating PS4 NPL NNSW Premiers and Champions Edgeworth FC 4-0 at the weekend.

The game between City and the Jets this Sunday will be played at Morshead Park, and a crowd of over 4,000 is tipped to attend.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for football supporters in Western Victoria to get up close and personal with some of the biggest names in Australian Football,” Ballarat Red Devils Director of Football, Mr Andrew Burgess said.

“We expect a crowd of 4,000 plus supporters to attend Ballarat for the game,” he said.

After the City clash the Jets – in collaboration with Cessnock City Council – will host Western Sydney Wanderers at Cessnock Sportsground on Saturday 24 September 2016. Kick-off in that clash is also at 3pm, and tickets are available here.
