It wasn't long ago that Taylor Regan was attending similar clinics to yesterday's Jets Junior Member Clinic.
The Hunter Ports- Newcastle Jets gave back something special to their biggest fans yesterday, holding an exclusive Members only Junior Clinic at Ausgrid Stadium.
Over 600 junior members between the ages of five and sixteen came along to meet their football idols, including Taylor Regan and to learn some of the basic skills and drills of football.
“It was fantastic to be a part of such a great day! I feel privileged that we were able to give this opportunity to our biggest fans,” Regan said.
“This is the first time the Newcastle Jets have held an exclusive Junior Clinic day for our Members and it was nice to meet the boys and girls who are out there in the bays cheering us on every week.”
Being one of the younger players in the Newcastle Jets squad, it wasn-t too long ago that Regan was attending similar football clinics himself.
“I remember going to clinics like this when I was about nine or ten, desperate to learn as much as I could. It-s a strange feeling being on the other side of the fence. Having been in their position, days like today have a special place in my heart,” the defender explained.
“My advice for our younger fans aspiring to one day become a Newcastle Jet, would be to focus on their passion and persistence for the game.
“I have a saying that has shaped me into the player I am today, and that is “natural talent only gets you so far.” It-s hard work and perseverance that sets you above the rest.
“I-m sure I-ll see some of these familiar faces cheering us on this weekend. The support from our Members and fans is second to none and I hope that it continues for the rest of the season.
“If today-s clinic was any indication of the support we have from our Members and fans, then I-m sure it will only grow stronger as we enter the business end of the season.”
