Congratulations to Jonny Reid and the Hunter Motor Sports team who have taken out the third round of the 2012 Porsche City Index Carrera Cup Australia Championship on the streets of Surfer-s Paradise.

Reid overcame a poor start in race one to finish second and set the fastest lap of the race before doing the same in the second race.

In race three, Reid capitalised on a mistake by Championship leader Craig Baird to secure the win and collect enough points for an outright victory.

Reid said it was a solid round for the team and they will now focus their efforts on finishing in second place at the Homebush street circuit, which will take place between November 30 and December 2.

“Some people may look at it like we were handed the win but we certainly put the pressure on from the start and made sure Baird had the hardest job possible,” Reid explained.

“It is now quite possible to move in to second place at Homebush.

“That is our goal now and after missing the first round, second for the season would be like winning the Championship for us.”

Baird scored enough points at the round to secure the 2012 Championship with one round remaining.

Reid now sits in third position, just seven points adrift of Alex Davison and with 180 points on offer in a round, the team are now focused on securing second in the Championship and another outright victory in the final round at Homebush.

“Our goal has always been to win races,” he said.

“Coming in to the 2012 season missing our first meeting has meant an outright Championship victory has always been a secondary target.

“We now have as many round wins as Craig Baird and we have set more fastest laps than any other team.”

The Newcastle Jets wish Reid and the Hunter Motor Sports team all the best or the final round of the Championship.
