Newcastle Jets Women secured their first win of the Westfield W-League 2015/16 season on Saturday, defeating Melbourne Victory’s Women 1-0 at ABD Stadium in Broadmeadows, Victoria.

Craig Deans’ side scored the only goal of the game via the boot of tenacious midfielder Chloe Logarzo deep into added time at the end of the first half.

Impressive attacker Rhali Dobson broke down the left before squaring the ball to Logarzo who made no mistake in guiding her shot beyond former Matildas custodian Melissa Barbieri.

Logarzo won a penalty shortly after the break, and stepped up eager to claim her brace.

However, Barbieri showed why she’s still regarded as one of the best female goalkeepers in the country by diving to her right to thwart Logarzo’s effort from 12 yards.

Victory’s Women went in search of an equaliser on their home turf however it was Dobson who went closest to adding to the scoreboard attendant’s duties just after the hour mark when her firm strike following neat combination play with Tara Andrews struck the side netting.

Young Jets shot-stopper Hannah Southwell was primarily called upon midway through the second half, and twice she showed bravery and agility to ensure that her clean sheet was kept intact.

Jets Women have four points from their opening two Westfield W-League 2015/16 season fixtures following a draw away to Perth Glory, and their win over Victory.

Deans’ squad will play their first home match of their campaign on Saturday 7 November against Western Sydney Wanderers Women.

Kick-off at Magic Park in Broadmeadow is at 2:00pm, with the club’s Hyundai A-League fixture to kick-off just three hours later at Hunter Stadium.
