With the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season now behind us, we’re taking a look back on the season in numbers.
This week, we’re featuring six key numbers from the campaign of veteran defender, Nikolai Topor-Stanley.
A big thanks to the Fox Sports Lab for the stats!
2430 – Topor-Stanley played every minute of every single Hyundai A-League match for the Newcastle Jets across the 2018/19 season. In fact, he also played every minute in the side’s two FFA Cup and AFC Champions League outings. Not a bad feat for a central defender approaching 35 years of age!
174 – It was a league-high number of contest wins, 174, for the man at the back who averaged over six contest wins a game throughout 2018/19. The next best defender was Harrison Delbridge of Melbourne City, with 134.
111 – At 191cm tall, it’s not often that Topor-Stanley gets beaten in the air and this season proved no different. He bossed the skies with 111 aerial contest wins, at a success rate of 77%.
134 – Breaking up the play was a cornerstone of this defender’s game throughout the Hyundai A-League 2018/19 season, with 134 intercepts – a league best.
83 – When it was time to unload, Topor did so, boasting a total of 83 clearances in his 27 games this season. Only three players across the league had more.
292 – Back-to-back seasons at the Newcastle Jets have seen Topor-Stanley play every Hyundai A-League minute on offer – and now his total number of league appearances sits at 292. Only eight to go before he becomes just the second ever player to hit 300!
