Stand-in skipper Ruben Zadkovich told Ritter that he was proud of the character the Jets showed to hang on for the win.

“We-ve been talking about it at training for a while now about all the boys sticking together and fighting hard,” Zadkovich said.

“I was really proud of the boys tonight, their attitude was great and they really showed that Newcastle fight and that-s what we need.”

Ritter also caught up with Jets debutant Andrew Hoole who was pleased to have tasted victory in his first A-League match.

“It took a little bit for me to get into the game, but once the game went on I thought I became more and more involved and it became easier along the way,” Hoole said.

“The backline was solid today. It was good to have people around you that are always talking and telling you what to do and helping you out.

“That was a positive and also the clean sheet was really good for the team.”
