Gary van Egmond is unsure who will be in his squad for the Jets big game against Melbourne Victory on Saturday.

As the Newcastle Jets prepare to host Melbourne Victory on Saturday night, coach Gary van Egmond is unsure how his team will line up.

A number of players missed or pulled out of Tuesday-s training session at Ray Watt Oval and will need to prove their fitness at Thursday-s session to be included in the squad for Saturday-s game.

“Ryan (Griffiths) pulled up sore towards the end of last week-s game, so him not training is a precaution and he has assured me he will be okay to play,” the coach said.

“Franny (Jeffers) pulled out midway through training on Tuesday, he has had soreness in his groins so again this was a precaution.

“Kasey-s (Wehrman) training load, we just need to manage that and Jobe (Wheelhouse) is the same with his back.

“We worked hard on Tuesday, they have a rest day today and then I will see how they all go at Thursday-s session.”

Ali Abbas is one player that could be brought in to the Jets front third for Saturday-s game against the Victory.

“Changes this week will largely be governed by the players and their fitness, because we have so many in that in-between it is a little bit too early to say,” van Egmond said.

“Ali is showing that spark and centrally he has been doing well. He has a point of difference, a good work rate, he can score goals, he can set goals up and he played well in the Youth game last weekend.”

Whilst focus is on this weekend-s game, video analysis of last weekend-s game showcased a few areas where the Jets can improve and what they are working on at training this week.

Saturday-s game at Ausgrid Stadium is set to be a spectacle, with both teams fighting hard for those three-points. Be sure to be there and get behind your Newcastle Jets.
