SQUAD: Jones selects 17 for Wanderers

Newcastle Jets Head Coach Mark Jones has named an initial 17-player squad for this Sunday’s round 3 clash with Western Sydney Wanderers at Spotless Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park.

Every player who was involved either in a playing or substitute capacity for the Jets’ 4-0 round 2 win over Brisbane Roar at McDonald Jones Stadium last weekend has retained a place in Jones’ preliminary squad for round 3.

The sole addition to the mix is right back Jason Hoffman who has recovered sufficiently from a calf complaint sustained in round 1. Hoffman is fully fit and has trained strongly this week, however the Jets defence kept a clean sheet last weekend, so Jones faces a welcome selection headache.

Sunday’s game against Wanderers will mark the first ever Hyundai A-League match hosted at Spotless Stadium, after Western Sydney played the first game of the new campaign at ANZ Stadium against Sydney FC.

Wanderers have recorded a loss and a win to start the season, and are in fifth place on the standings while the Jets are third.

Kick-off on Sunday evening is at 7:00pm AEST, and the match will be broadcast live on FOX SPORTS 505 and across the airwaves via 1233 ABC Newcastle and ABC Grandstand.
