Newcastle Jets can today announce that the scorer of the first ever F3 Derby goal in the Hyundai A-League, Ante Milicic, has agreed to join the Club’s squad for the inaugural ‘Legends Challenge’ at Central Coast Stadium.
Milicic, who scored seven goals in 20 appearances for the Jets in the first season of the Hyundai A-League, is now Ange Postecoglou’s Assistant with the Caltex Socceroos.
Milicic played professionally in Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia, and Malaysia during his successful career, which also included appearances for Australia at full international and youth level.
Milicic won the National Soccer League’s Golden Boot in 2003/04, was Johnny Warren Medalist for the best player in the competition the same season, and was voted player of the Grand Final in Sydney Olympic’s 2002 Grand Final triumph over Perth Glory at Subiaco Oval.
In further good news the Club can also confirm that former Newcastle United defender Peter Tsekenis, as well as former Newcastle Breakers attacker Chris Tanchevski will feature for the Jets/Newy Legends.
Tsekenis played for Newcastle United between 2000 and 2004, and represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games in the United States. Indeed, Tsekenis scored one, Mark Viduka the other in a 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia at the Orange Bowl in Atlanta.
Tanchevski played for Newcastle Breakers between 1998 and 2000, making his NSL debut as a 17-year-old. Tanchevski was at the Australian Institute of Sport as a teenager, had interest from Werder Bremen as a youngster, and spent time on trial with both Aston Villa (England) and Nancy (France).
Unfortunately Stuart Musialik will no longer be able to play for the Legends Squad this Sunday, though the 2008 Hyundai A-League Champion will be present to support the team.

The inaugural ‘Legends Challenge’, supporting Men of Football, will kick off at 3:30pm and feature 15-minute halves in a 7-v-7 half-pitch format.
The game will take place shortly before the commencement of the final #F3Derby of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 regular season, which starts at 5:00pm.
The participating players will also form a guard of honour for the current #F3Derby combatants as they take to the pitch in Gosford for the round 26 encounter.
Central Coast Mariners announced their squad on Monday.
