Today coach Gary van Egmond will announce his squad to take on Melbourne Heart at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

Striker Ruben Zadkovich has been ruled out of the game due to a hamstring injury whilst midfielder Ben Kantarovski is in doubt due to a calf injury.

It is unlikely Brazilian defender Tiago Calvano, who returned to the main training group yesterday, will make a return to the pitch this weekend either.

“Tiago is getting better and he will be pretty close to playing this week but he will need a good week of training with the team before he comes back,” van Egmond said.

The prospect of having both Michael Bridges and Francis Jeffers in attack for the Jets is appealing but van Egmond will make a decision on Friday whether Bridges will play.

“It is fantastic to have Michael on board and all the signs are really positive from what I have seen at training since arriving in Newcastle,” he said.

“I think we have a number of players who have done really well for us and we need to remember that when choosing the line-up this week.”

Even though the Jets defeated Melbourne Heart in round one, van Egmond says the team are travelling to Melbourne with a great deal of respect for Heart.

“I think Heart have been a little bit unlucky this season,” he explained.

“They are playing good attacking football and they create a lot of chances but their conversion rate is not great.”

“I don-t think their position in the competition is a true reflection on how well they are playing at the moment.”“
