Newcastle Jets coach Gary van Egmond has named and extended 18-man squad ahead of the Jets week 5 game against Perth Glory.

Newcastle Jets coach Gary van Egmond has named an extended 18-man squad ahead of the Jets week 5 game against Perth Glory, to be played at Ausgrid Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The inclusion of English striker and fan favourite Francis Jeffers in this week-s squad is sure to please Members and supporters.

“Francis will definitely have a part to play this weekend,” van Egmond said.

“We have another training session tomorrow and we will have a chat after that about the best way to utilise him.”

Young talents James Virgili, Chris Payne and Jacob Pepper have also been included in the squad and remain a chance to get a run against the Glory this weekend.

“We want to ensure we have some fire power in that front third,” van Egmond explained.

“Virgili and Pepper did quite well in the Youth game up at the Gold Coast and Payney has been scoring in the Youth team so they have been rewarded.”

Striker Marko Jesic, who played in the Youth’s 1-1 draw on Wednesday afternoon against Perth’s Youth team, has been omitted.

“I had a look at Marko play last night and I just think he needs more games,” van Egmond explained.

“We all know he has the talent and it is just a matter of time for him.”

The 18-man squad for Saturday-s game against Perth Glory is: Ben Kennedy, Taylor Regan, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, Ben Kantarovski, Kasey Wehrman, Jeremy Brockie, Ruben Zadkovich, Tarek Elrich, Jobe Wheelhouse, Sung-Hwan Byun, Labinot Haliti, Chris Payne, James Virgili, Matthew Nash, Ali Abbas, Ryan Griffiths, Francis Jeffers and Jacob Pepper.
