Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets head coach Gary van Egmond visited Lambton High School on Thursday to wish their open boys football team luck ahead of next week-s State Cup final.

Lambton qualified for the final of the state-wide secondary schools knockout competition with a victory over Cootamundra last week.

They came from 1-0 down to level the scores and force extra-time. After neither team could break the deadlock, Lambton managed to prevail 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out. They will now play Liverpool Boys High in the final at Seymour Shaw Park in Miranda next Wednesday.

Van Egmond addressed the students and gave them advice on how to go about preparing for such an important game.

“They-ve done extremely well to get this far already and playing in the final is going to be a great experience for them,” van Egmond said.

“On behalf of the entire Newcastle Jets Football Club and the Hunter football community, I-d like to wish them the best of luck.”
