Newcastle Jets star Wayne Brown made an interstate dash on Saturday to ensure that he didn’t miss the birth of his second child back in the Hunter.
With the score locked at 1-1 at the break in the Jets’ round 14 clash with Brisbane Roar in the Sunshine State, Brown was told that his wife had gone into labour back in Newcastle.
With a flight already pre-booked in case of an emergency situation, Brown quickly gathered his belongings and made tracks to Brisbane Airport, arriving back at Newcastle Airport at 9:30pm.
From there Club staff transported Brown to John Hunter Hospital where he, thankfully, hadn’t missed the big moment.
After checking on his partner, Brown had this message for Jets fans who he said had inundated his Twitter account with well-wishes after learning of the situation on Fox Sports’ coverage.
Ma Leilei replaced Brown for the second half of the Jets’ 3-2 win over Brisbane, and as of the time of writing the Brown family are still playing the waiting game for their new bundle of joy.
