The Newcastle Jets confirm Clayton Zane has been appointed Head Coach and Joey Peters Assistant Coach of the Jets W-League team.

Cheryl Salisbury will continue her role on the Jets Advisory Board with a particular focus on the W-League team.

“It is great news that we have Clayton and Joey coming on board at the Jets and with Cheryl I have no doubt they will create a successful environment for our W-League team,” Jets CEO Robbie Middleby said.

“It is rewarding to see local and loyal people who have given a lot to the Club and game become involved in a coaching capacity.

“There appointment and the Jets taking ownership of the team is a massive step in building and fostering talent, not just in the A-League but across all aspects of football.”

Zane who started playing with the Cessnock Hornets and had three years with Newcastle, is thrilled to return as coach.

“I am honoured to be given this exciting opportunity,” Zane said.

“It is a big challenge ahead and I look forward to working with Joey and Cheryl to help lift the profile of the W-League and hopefully have a successful year on the field.”

Former Jets and Matilda player Joey Peters hopes she can encourage other people to get involved in the game.

“I have been a player and to now be involved in coaching shows there is a career path,” Peters said.

“I hope that other people will be inspired and get involved in the game.

“It is also exciting that the Jets are willing to invest in the W-League. They are taking the initiative to further grow the women’s game in all aspects and value it as a great product.”
