W-League preview: Jets face Sky Blues

The Jets’ Westfield W-League side have set their focus on backing up a Round 1 win over Western Sydney as they face competition powerhouses, Sydney FC at McDonald Jones Stadium.

In their second double-header for the W-League season, the Jets’ will kick off against the travelling Sky Blues at 5pm, as they look to bounce back from a 3 – 1 loss to the Roar in Round 1.

Westfield W-League Head Coach, Craig Deans said the side would be buoyed by the return of his Young Matildas from World Cup Qualifiers.

“It’s great to have Sophie (Nenadovic), Clare (Wheeler) and Cortnee (Vine) back this week, and they’ve slotted right back into training,” said Deans.

“Our starting XI performed really well last week, as did the girls who came on from the bench – a selection headache is a good problem to have and really showcases the depth of our squad.”

The fixture will see defender, Cassidy Davis notch up her 50th W-League appearance as she joins Gema Simon and Tara Andrews with more than 50 caps for the club.

Deans was wary of a disappointed Sydney side following their opening round loss.

“Sydney aren’t a team that are renowned for losing two matches in a row,” he added.

“I’m expecting a different side and a very different performance, they’re a strong club and with players like De Vanna, Logarzo and Cooper, we’ll need to be at our best.”

“We’re better for the run last week as well as another week on the training pitch, we’re really starting to see our combinations come together and I’m expecting another improved performance.”
