Newcastle Jets can confirm the signing of shot-stopper, Nicole Simonsen, for the Westfield W-League 2019/20 season.

Simonsen completes Craig Deans’ roster ahead of the November 17 season opener against Melbourne City at Newcastle’s No.2 Sportsground.

The 22-year-old joins from Western Sydney Wanderers, where she made six appearances between the sticks last season.

She also donned the gloves for Manly United throughout the NPL NSW Women’s season in 2019, appearing in all 22 regular season matches.

The move to Newcastle will see her jostle with Claire Coelho for a spot in the starting XI, and it’s a challenge which Simonsen is relishing.

“I’ve been training with the side since pre-season started and I’m delighted to have been given an opportunity here in Newcastle,” Simonsen said.

“The quality is high and I’m enjoying the challenge of fighting for that number one jersey. Training with Claire and [goalkeeping coach Andrew] Goldy has been great so far.

“It’s a really tight-knit bunch of girls, everyone gets along really well and I’m really pleased to be a part of it for this season.”
