Newcastle Jets midfielder Jobe Wheelhouse is set to make his first pre-season trial appearance this Wednesday morning, when the Jets senior team plays the youth team.

Wheelhouse had a set back this pre-season due to foot surgery but remains positive about the season ahead.

“It has been an interrupted pre-season but in some ways that is a good thing for me; I had time to have a good break and I feel really good for it,” Wheelhouse said at training on Monday.

The 27-year old said he looks forward to getting game time in Wednesday-s intra-club.

“I know it is between ourselves, but sometimes we get more out of it than playing the other team,” Wheelhouse added.

“It will be heated and I looking forward to getting game time under my belt.”

With many off-season changes to the team, Wheelhouse says the performances to date have been impressive.

“From what I have seen the group has really gelled together,” he said

“We have signed some really good players and that will benefit us in the long run.

“There is no doubt that is where we need to work on the front-third; the defence is looking quite good, we have seen that in the trial results.

“Although in the three games we have played, we have put a lot of goals on, so the front third isn-t a disaster but it is something we need to work on from last year.

“If we can have a few more players getting into the double figures in the goals then that is going to help us.”

As for where Wheelhouse sees himself playing in 2012/13, it will be wherever he is required.

“Gary and I haven-t spoken too much about the position that he wants me to play, it will be in the midfield somewhere, whether it is left, right in the middle, I am happy to play where ever he needs me,” Wheelhouse said.

“Whatever is best for the team, I will do it.”
