The Newcastle Jets have today re-signed Jobe Wheelhouse for a further 2 years. The local product was a foundation member of the Jets- squad and this new deal will see him stay at the club until the conclusion of Hyundai A-League season 2010/2011.

Born and bred in Newcastle, Wheelhouse last Saturday evening celebrated his 50th appearance for his hometown at national league level, having made 20 appearances for Newcastle United in the former National Soccer League competition before making his 30th appearance for the Jets.

The versatile 23-year-old recently made the switch from midfield to defence and appears comfortable in the new role assigned to him by Head coach Gary van Egmond. He has also shown resilience in spades, overcoming a series of ankle injuries at the beginning of his bright career to start in 7 of the Jets- 8 games thus far this season.

“It-s certainly fantastic to have Jobe on board for another two years with the club,” Jets CEO John Tsatsimas said. “We are delighted as a club to have him as part of our playing staff for some time.”

“He is a wonderful talent and it is great to have a local product staying on and representing his hometown into the future.

“It is vitally important that Newcastle footballers have the opportunity to come through and represent the city at the highest level. Jobe is a perfect example of a local player doing just that and he is someone that junior footballers in the region can relate to and take inspiration from,” Mr. Tsatsimas said.
