Wheelhouse: We are a work in progress

“The best scenario for us is that we have a quick turnaround before Sydney this week and will go down there and try and get the three points,” Wheelhouse explained.

While disappointed with the performance of his side during their 2-nil loss to Adelaide United on Sunday, Newcastle Jets captain Jobe Wheelhouse is confident of an improved performance against Sydney FC this weekend.

“We tried to play as best as we could and implement the things we tried during the pre-season,” he said.

“It was one of those days were we were a little bit off and copped that early goal, which put us on the back foot from the start.

“I think nerves made us a little bit edgy at times but we got better as the game went on.”

Wheelhouse would like the Jets Members and supporters to remember that they are still a new team and it is going to take some time.

“The best scenario for us is that we have a quick turnaround before Sydney this week and will go down there and try and get the three points,” Wheelhouse explained.

“Bringing Emile (Heskey) in has probably changed our game plan a bit and we need to get used to that.

“We have never had a target man in the 10 years I have been here.

“I think myself and the boys can improve on our first up performance and Sydney is a good way to start.”

Wheelhouse says a result against Sydney FC in front of a predicted full house will give the side a big buzz.

“It is going to be a great crowd down there which will be great for the A-League, and for us,” he added.

“I love playing against Sydney; we have a really good rivalry and are always up for the game.

“And they always put a good team out there and it will be no different on Saturday.”
