Y-League: Points shared in Canberra

It was a fixture in which we held the lead for over 70 minutes, against a side without a point in seven previous fixtures.

A late goal off the bench ensured that Saturday’s opponents, Canberra United, would take a point from a big Australia Day clash.

With that result wrapped up, it sees the Jets finish the Foxtel Y-League season in fourth position, with ten points from eight fixtures.

It was end-to-end stuff to begin a warm evening in Canberra, with Noah James making a good save to deny Lucas Mauragis.

Just moments later it proved an even more fantastic save, with Jack Simmons racing down the other end and putting one away at the back post to put the Jets ahead.

Chances were then sparse for the remainder of the half for both sides, bar James Carli’s attempt in the dying minutes.

A halftime change saw Kent Harrison introduced to proceedings, but chances remained rare with Canberra firing wide in the 56th and Kosta Petratos hitting the keeper in the 66th minute.

In the 84th minute, Canberra salvaged a point after Bul Juach beat a couple of defenders and fired home to pinch a goal which saw the two sides share the points.

A week off training now for our youth team, but they’ll be straight back into it next Monday with the NPL NNSW season fast approaching.
