Gary van Egmond has named an extended 18-man squad ahead of the Newcastle Jets week 7 game against Brisbane Roar.

Ruben Zadkovich has been named and if selected to play on Saturday, it will be his first game back from injury.

“Ruben is back in and it will be great to have him out on the pitch on Saturday,” van Egmond said.

“We really missed Ruben’s energy last week, both when we had the ball and when we didn-t, so we are very happy that he is available to play this weekend.”

While van Egmond is confident of having Zadkovich back in the side, he will need to have a closer look at Tiago Calvano at training on Friday, with the Brazilian defender having a bit of trouble with his right oblique.

“Tiago is struggling a little bit with his right oblique and we will wait and see how he goes at training on Friday and make the decision there and then,” the coach said.

One noticeable absence from this week-s line-up is Michael Bridges who will miss this week-s game so he can make a full recover from illness.

“Bridgey hasn-t trained with us consistently this week so it is going to be a bit of a push for him to start,” van Egmond added.

“He is still getting over the effects of what he had last week so we will leave him for this week and might be able to give him some game time with the Youth.

“I will then re-access him for the following week.”
