For Newcastle Jets midfielder Ruben Zadkovich, last Sunday-s pre-season game against Sydney FC showed that there is still a lot of work to be done before the start of the A-League season next month.

Zadkovich, who is enjoying a move to the midfield, says the side needs to focus on improving their game.

“We need to keep pushing forward and if we can get some results early in the season, it will be a big help to us,” he said.

“With us being a young squad it is all about confidence.

“Last season we had 13 pre-season games and we won them all, but didn-t play finals.

“For me pre-season is just pre-season, it is not about the results but about how hard we are working towards the A-League season.”

Zadkovich, who scored the Jets only goal during last week-s draw, said the team needs to work on their attention to detail leading up to Saturday-s trial against the Western Sydney Wanderers.

“We have been putting a lot of emphasis on movement, agility and aggression and I think that is working well for us so far,” he said.

“If you look at the weekend we should have gone in to half time with a few goals and we didn-t.

“We missed chances and we are working on finishing and getting results.

“Also the goal we conceded on the weekend was pretty soft and something we probably could have prevented if a few other decisions had been made.”

With a number of former teammates in the Wanderers squad, there is a lot of anticipation surrounding Saturday-s game, but Zadkovich says they are treating it like any other.

“There is going to be a lot of buzz especially in the community,” he added.

“We are looking forward to the game and seeing some old friends and getting stuck in to it.

“It should be a cracker.”
