Zane’s W-League update

After missing their game due to bad weather last weekend, Zane gives his weekly update as they prepare for Melbourne Victory.

Well its been a bit of a non-event week for the W-League side as our against Perth Glory was postponed due to extreme weather conditions over the weekend.

Obviously it would have been preferable to get on the field; this now creates a little more uncertainty on the ladder board.

We are just trying to look for the positives during this short time off. The result between Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory over the weekend will work in our favour as we have previously beaten Brisbane, in Brisbane.

It has been a tough week for the team with the weather conditions restricting our training time. We have been forced to spend the time with indoor training sessions; focusing on cardio and a few light indoor soccer sessions.

We have reviewed thoroughly our game against Canberra and analysed the team’s game structure.

In a final ray of sunshine for the team we were able to get back out on the field last night for a training session which was great. We were working on ball movement and team layout in preparation for this weekend-s away game against Melbourne Victory.

As we are traveling to Melbourne on Friday we are not put off by the distance, having recently traveled to both Canberra and Brisbane to play. This weekend-s game we will be focusing on walking away with the three points.

Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory are our main competitors this season as they will be our biggest rivals for the fourth position in the finals. I anticipate this Saturday-s match to be a tough one.

We will be putting pressure on every pass and valuing possession. Our style of play in last weekend-s match restricted Lisa De Vanna from getting much of a look in to the game. On the contrary, in Saturday-s match against Melbourne we will hope to create a better transition into the attacking third and generate more goal scoring opportunities for De Vanna.

Unfortunately after Saturday-s game we have a bye, leaving us off the field for another week. However, we will be using this to our advantage as we have had such a short training week this week.

Our schedule in the lead up to Christmas is fairly congested, with the reschedule of our Perth Glory game to be on the 21st December. We will be working on our shape as a team, style of play and our game plan. Hopefully this will prepare us for the hectic few rounds ahead.

The last week of Movember is upon us and there are some extremely well groomed moustaches around the Newcastle Jets sheds. Unfortunately none of which are from the W-League, I didn-t partake in Movember this year as I felt I should stick with the girls.

If they can-t grow them, nor should I!
